MY Current Condition: Before my wedding day, my in laws to be are planning their first visit to Indonesia. We had wanted to take them to Yogyakarta to have their first feel of Javanese culture. But with Merapi deciding to burst out soon, the chance of going to Yogyakarta look pretty dim. We put our thinking caps on and think of some other places to go. There are Toraja, Lombok and Toba lake (Bali is off-limit, because we're planning to go there after the wedding). Three points of interests among many others that are deemed safe from the erupting or soon to be erupting volcanoes.
Looking at many travel informations from relatives, friends and the internet in search for the perfect place to travel to, I came to realize how much I would have missed. There are many places known for either its natural, cultural or historical value/beauty that I haven't been to.
I suppose I'm one of those people who don't know what they have till it's gone. Well, I have a wonderful country. I neglected it for 27 years. I've only been to a very small part of Sulawesi, where I live as a child; to Bali and Lombok island, Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Bandung, Blitar and Solo. But even though I go to these areas, except Bali; I hardly stop to admire their beauty or enjoy the sense of ownership of these exquisite culture. Rather, I used to despise how people like I am now linger and bask on the glory of the past, refusing to see the reality, a country rotting away; gnawed by some of its own people's greed, torn by the anger of the wounded earth. I have seen many who have left this country with hatred and disgust and fear. And here, I find myself questioning, which one is better? Those who stay in reality and hoped for a time to flee the country, or those who lingered in its past glory and hoped for a better future?
I choose the latter...
This is why I will show you the dream, and this is why you'll find me blogging about my travel around Indonesia..
